Area Commission-Neighborhood Civic Association Work Group

Columbus City Council initiated a new era of collaboration between City Hall and the area commissions and civic organizations in Columbus.
Columbus City Council President Michael C. Mentel asked representatives from all fourteen area commissions and select major civic organizations to form a panel to study the role of neighborhood groups and their interaction with city government. This is the first time ever that City Council has taken this step.
Mentel emphasized that the panel members will have complete independence and autonomy to create the structure of the work group, establish their rules, set the agenda, and determine the focal points of their report.
President Mentel requested that the work group submit a report to Council in the fall detailing their findings, and have asked Gary L. Baker, II—chair of the Greater Hilltop Area Commission—to head the work group.

The work group’s first meeting was held Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at Grace Baptist Church. Mentel was on hand to congratulate the volunteers as they begin their task of making Columbus a better place to live.
