MAYOR, COUNCILMEMBER MILLER AND CHP UNVEIL NEW CONDOS IN KING-LINCOLN DISTRICT
Neighborhood revitalization efforts continue in the King-Lincoln District as Mayor Michael B. Coleman joined Columbus Housing Partnership CEO Amy Klaben to unveil NoBo on Long Condominiums, a nine-unit condo complex that will be constructed with federal funds from the National Stabilization Program. The condos will be located at 1072 E. Long Street.
“This is one more important step in our efforts to bring back this historic neighborhood,” said Mayor Coleman. “Along with our partners with the Columbus Housing Partnership and the National Stabilization Program we are bringing in housing units, residents and renewed hope to the King-Lincoln District.”
The City of Columbus will provide a loan of NSP funds to CHP in the amount of $1.74 million to finance the construction of the condominiums. All nine units will be constructed by CEQART construction and will consist of three buildings. Two buildings will be newly-constructed and contain seven units. Another building will be rehabbed and will contain two units. The homes will range from 925 to 1,660 square feet and will meet or exceed the Enterprise Green Communities standards. There will be six, one-bedroom units and three, two-bedroom units. CHP will sell the units to income-qualified buyers for $110,000 to $160,000 cash. After the sales, approximately $950,000 will be returned to the City of Columbus for future NSP-funded developments.
“The community is so fortunate to have Mayor Coleman working hard to create new opportunities for the King-Lincoln District,” Amy Klaben said. “Because of his efforts, more people are paying attention to the King-Lincoln District and are looking at it as a place to live. We have seen that in The North of Broad neighborhood already, Homeport Home Ownership expects to sell and close on our 30th home by year end.”
The Mayor also toured a new bed and breakfast, Garden Manor, at 20th and Long streets, a $500,000 investment by Near East residents Al Waddell and Allen Baker. Last month, Mayor Coleman was on hand for a ribbon cutting of one of eight new builds located in the North of Broad (NOBO) neighborhood in the King-Lincoln District, constructed with NSP funds.
“There is a sense of energy and transformation in this neighborhood,” said Councilmember A. Troy Miller, chair of the Zoning Committee. “These quality construction projects replace dangerous, blighted buildings that dominated this area.”
