City of Columbus This Week To Complete Resurfacing Of Nine Streets Funded By Federal Recovery Dollars
The City of Columbus this week will complete the resurfacing of nine streets funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, three weeks before the ARRA deadline of June 30. South Front Street between Sycamore and Liberty Streets will be the last of the nine streets to be completed this week; portions of Mooberry Street and Miller and Taylor Avenues were the first of the nine streets resurfaced in the fall of 2009. The city, MORPC and ODOT worked together to secure the $3 million federal stimulus dollars for the resurfacing work.
“These nine streets are safer for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians thanks to our teamwork with our congressional delegation, MORPC and ODOT,” said Mayor Michael B. Coleman. “We will continue to fight for every dollar we can invest in Columbus neighborhoods.”
The nine streets were among the most in need of resurfacing in Columbus, and created 84 construction and spinoff jobs. The resurfacing was among a package of local projects to receive ARRA funding and was coordinated through MORPC.
“This partnership with federal, state and regional agencies helped to jumpstart our 2010 street resurfacing program which will ultimately be the City of Columbus’ largest ever investment in street resurfacing,” said Councilmember Hearcel F. Craig, chair of the Public Service and Transportation Committee.
