Council President Responds to 2010 Budget Proposal

(COLUMBUS)—Columbus City Council President Michael C. Mentel, chair of the Finance Committee, issued the following statement upon release of Mayor Michael B. Coleman’s 2010 budget proposal:

“I commend Mayor Coleman and his staff for working diligently to present Council with a responsible and balanced budget proposal. With the difficult financial conditions continuing to challenge our nation and impacting cities like Columbus, we must focus intently on allocating our resources wisely and maintaining essential services such as police and fire protection. We must also continue dedicating ourselves to the pledge we made to Columbus residents by concentrating our efforts on job creation, economic development, and making government more efficient.

My colleagues and I look forward to fully analyzing this proposal, implementing input from the public, and working with Mayor Coleman to adopt a sensible and prudent budget for 2010.”

All media inquiries about Council’s budget process should be directed to President Mentel. An announcement from Council will be forthcoming to provide information on a series of budget meetings and hearings that will be open to the public.
